Community Garden
One of the goals of the Dalhousie Priority project is to find opportunities to create more community gardens in
our neighbourhood. These gardens are an important part of city life, giving
those without yards a chance to grow produce and
providing a social hub where neighbours can meet.
Getting a garden started is more of a challenge than it seems: land is at a premium in our neighbourhood, and so finding appropriate space is difficult. As a solution, we’ve opted to build temporary community gardens (2-5 years or more) on vacant land that will eventually be developed. This way we get both gardens and better land use.
In conjunction with the Vietnamese Canadian Centre, we’ve secured a lot in a prominent spot in our community at Preston and Somerset. Things moved quickly, and a team of volunteers built 37 plots in the spring of 2017. The first year was a great success.

Great work neighbours! I am very interested in the possibility of a plot, however cannot make the meeting on Sunday. If potential gardeners have any action expected of them, please let me know!
