The Community Garden’s Market Day on Sunday, October 14 was a great success. Over 200 people dropped by the gardens on a sunny autumn day. Eight vendors were on hand selling preserves, fresh produce, and a variety of hand-made items. After a very hot growing season, the gardens came to an official close on November 4 with the Annual General Meeting. Budgeting information for the past year and next were shared, as well as what worked and what can be improved for next season. On the list is a new shed, since the last one finally perished in strong winds. After the meeting, members worked together to clean up the gardens.
The first ever DCA photo contest closed October 29. Congratulations to Jenna Davies, Fiona Mak, Peter Politis, Katie Shapiro, Terry Steeves, Erica Stillo, and Emily Thorne. The DCA has selected their photos as finalist entries. In early 2019, the finalist photos will be printed, framed, and exhibited at cafe Pressed. Thanks to everyone who participated. The contest generated a lot of interest and the photos submitted showed unique and creative views of the Dalhousie neighbourhood. Remember to enter again next year! Thanks to Catherine McKenney and the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa for their promotional support.
Now in its second year, the Preston BIA presents Little Italy's Art & Light Festival on November 17 and 18. Art duo Dems and Doll will present a psychedelic lighting show with a new interactive element. The event is free and family oriented, running from 7pm until 11pm on both nights. Filled with art, performance and music, these magical nights of glowing, fantastical installations are not to be missed.
GigSpace Performance Venue is conducting a pre-feasibility study for a Multi-Tenant Arts Hub. This new initiative is under development between GigSpace and Ottawa Community Housing, with the Arts Hub potentially becoming a part of the Phase 2 redevelopment of Rochester Heights between Gladstone St and Raymond St. The concept is to provide a socially inclusive community hub for a wide range of art forms and expression including but not limited to visual arts, music, theatre, dance. GigSpace is actively seeking interest and participation from the Ottawa Arts Community and is accepting Requests for Expressions of Interest (REOI) until December 10.
